The Salton Sea, California. (2015 - )
Siren Song is a body of work that centres on the desert landscape of California’s Salton Sea. What draws me back to this environment, again and again, is the silence, desolation, and isolation of a place that seems suspended in time. Town streets give the illusory impression of being un-peopled; the emptiness generates a paradoxical sensation of a presence. Despite the inescapable here-and-now of this California desert, I often feel that I am not quite in the past, the present, or the future. I feel caught between worlds. I reach out, from a realm of shadows, souls, and loss, to touch the corporeal. The Salton Sea summons my ghosts. It is my siren song.
